Spreading Good Cheer with the Angels Chain Border

Every once in a while, I like to play with something a little different—something that reminds me that creativity doesn’t have to fit inside familiar boxes. So when I was assigned to make borders or cards for CM, I chose to make borders.

I don’t typically create borders, but this paper collection made it really easy with its soft blues and grays, golden angels, and that sweet little tree. I wanted to see what it might feel like to work on a smaller canvas—just a few inches tall—but still create balance, depth, and story.

I started layering simple pieces: a holly print base, a gray strip, and those darling angels dancing across the top. Then I tucked in the Christmas tree and tiny singing angel to bring it to life. Suddenly, this narrow strip felt like a complete scene—almost like a little window into holiday joy.

This experiment reminded me that creativity grows when we wander a bit off the path. You never know what will spark the next idea—maybe it’s a border, a tag, or even just a leftover scrap that inspires a whole new layout.

So even if borders aren’t your go-to project, give one a try. You might be surprised how much joy you find in the process!

Get out your Craft Notes journal because here are the full instructions for this border!

Supplies:

  • Magic of Christmas Paper Pack

  • Bright White Cardstock (1 sheet)

  • Gold Shimmer Paper (1 sheet)

  • Magic of Christmas Embellishments

  • Magic of Christmas Stickers

  • Border Maker System

  • Angels Chain BMC

  • Cyclic Circles BMC

  • Step 1:  Cut a 12” x 3” piece of Bright White cardstock for the base.

  • Step 2:  Cut a 12” x 1¼” piece of Line Art Leaves and a 12” x 1½” piece of Glistening Snow.  Adhere to base leaving a small amount of white showing on the top, middle, and bottom.

  • Step 3:  Punch a 12” Angels Chain border in Bright White and in Golden Stars paper.  Cut the round heads off the Golden Stars paper and adhere the chain to the white paper.  Now using Gold Shimmer paper, cut a border using the Cyclic Circles BMC.  Adhere the Circles behind the Angel’s head to appear as halos.  Adhere punched border to Glistening Snow paper.

  • Step 4:  Finish by adding embellishments and stickers using foam squares as desired.
