Six pages, three layouts, and one creative challenge that surprised me!

I'll admit something right from the beginning. When I first saw the Midnight Magic collection, I wasn't particularly excited about designing a workshop with it. It's dark. It's spooky. And if you've followed my scrapbooking for any length of time, you know that I love bright colors, white backgrounds, and pages that give our photos plenty of room to shine.

So I gave myself a challenge. Could I take a collection that wasn't naturally my style and turn it into something I genuinely loved? As it turns out, I could! And somewhere along the way, I started having a whole lot of fun!

Layout 1: Finding the Light in Midnight Magic

My first decision was probably the most important one I made throughout this workshop. I was going to use white cardstock as the foundation for my pages. Rather than allowing the darker papers to dominate, I wanted to pull out the lighter colors in the collection and use the darker patterns to create contrast.

Layout 2: A Little Teal, a Little Plum, and Plenty of White Space

This layout might be the one that surprised me the most!

I pulled out those beautiful teal and plum colors and combined them with the darker patterned papers. The teal paper with the bats adds just enough Halloween personality without overwhelming the pages.

Layout 3: A Haunted House!

That haunted house paper. Sometimes a collection includes a piece of paper that practically designs the page for you. That haunted house, silhouetted against the enormous orange moon and beautiful purple sky, was one of those papers.
