Bloom Where You're Planted – With an Unexpected Paper Twist

One of the things I love most about paper crafting is the joy of experimenting—and this layout is a perfect example! Would you believe that the background papers are from the Coastal Scenes Bundle? I know! It's not what you'd typically reach for when designing a floral page, but those soft light blues provided the perfect backdrop for some stunning purples to take center stage.

The photo was taken in front of our home garden, where nature truly shows off in full bloom. I wanted the layout to feel peaceful yet vibrant, just like that moment on the porch. The layers of flowers, the “Bloom” title, and small sentiments like “let life surprise you” and “focus on the good” tie everything together with intention.

I’m sharing the full directions for this page so you can recreate it or use it as a jumping-off point for your own blooming masterpiece. Whether you're using the exact products or pulling from your stash, I hope it inspires you to look at your paper in new and unexpected ways.

Let your creativity bloom—no matter the season or the paper collection.

Supplies Needed:

Here are the step-by-step directions:

  • Gut out the center of the Dark Blue and Purple Gradient papers. Leave 1" on each edge.

  • Layer the Bright White on top of the Purple Gradient. Then mat this layered piece on top of the Dark Blue.

  • Cut (2) 4 x 4 pieces of the Floral Hydrangea and (2) 4 x 4 pieces of Baby Blue Plaid. These are adhered to the white paper in a square leaving 2" around all the edges.

  • Cut a 4-1/8" x 6-1/8" piece from the Dark Blue paper that was gutted out from the large piece. Mount a 4 x 6 photo on this piece. Center this on the square using foam dots to adhere.

  • Stencil on the lower left and upper right of the square using Faded Jeans ink. Using a light hand when blending.

  • Add the purple floral embellishments, leaves and dots as shown.

  • Select the stamped sentiments you would like to use and stamp with Chipped Sapphire ink.

  • Add the Cricut cut and finish by journaling around the edges.

Happy crafting,

Brenda Rose
